Having a love crisis?

I've been dating this guys for a couple months and recently he lost a family member and has been distant and depressed. Last night he told me that although he cares about me he wants to be friends for now because his mind is all fuc#ed up. I thought he would want me to be there for support but he just has been distant n in his own world. Iam so hurt because I really wanted to be there for him as more. What do I do? Should I keep trying or move on? Thanks in advance.
