My bestfriend's relationship just went to "It's Complicated" recently.?

There's this girl that I've been friends with since she came to my school 2 years ago. I was her first friend-boy and we've become really close since then. I always wanted to ask her out but eventually I was too late since this idiot mother fuc*er asked her out and she said yes. They've been together for at least a year and recently the DUDE changed his relationship status to "It's complicated". Does this mean that they might break up soon and I'll have a chance to finally ask her out? And if so, would it be a good idea? 5 stars to best and clear answer.
